OLD TESTAMENT WINDOW #1

CREATION

GOD'S WILL EXPRESSED IN HIS WORD.

The first window on the left nearest the alter tells the story of the will of God expressed in His Word through Creation.  This window takes it theme from the first chapter of Genesis and expresses the theme of life and God's creative power as expressed in His creation of the world.  The first of God's creative acts is to expel darkness which is symbolic of chaos and evil.  B His Word God has given the light of His own glory to a world in darkness.  The strong light areas at the top of the window symbolize the glory of God.  Below Adam's feet is the division of the waters and the creation of land.  The sun, moon, planets, and stars are symbolic of the heavenly bodies which share in the light of God.  In the lower half of the window are birds, fish animals, and plants which are also God's creations.  All of these symbols of God's creation are surrounded with the same type of light glass showing that they partake in the power of creation which is the light of God's glory.

At the center of the window is the highest form of creation.  It is capable of communicating with God and accepting communication from God which sets it apart from all other forms of creation.  Man stands with an open gesture linking both heaven and earth because he embodies both of them in himself.  And so creation is accomplished by the Word of God and not by work of any kind.  "And God saw all that He had made, and it was very good." (Gn. 1:31)
